A Guatemalan born in Nicaragua. Robin has dedicated most of his life to study and portrait endangered species of fauna in Central
and South American tropics. He has been involved with conservationist organizations in the preservation of the natural resources
specially in Guatemala and Colombia.
Robin makes a point of painting his subjects life-size (with a few exceptions), focusing in the fine detail of each species plumage
and natural coloring. His work is clearly the result of many hours of painstaking study and examination of the creatures he paints,
complemented with his experience watching birds and fauna in the field, looking at their behavior and movements, making the final
product more realistic. Museum specimens are always consulted, and revised time and time again, so as to better understand the
subject.
From 1996 to 2002 he worked for the Alexander von Humboldt Institute in Colombia, where he made several collections of the Colombian
fauna, including the illustration of the red book of endangered birds of Colombia. He also illustrated the book Aves de la Sabana
de Bogotá (birds of Bogotá) and recently he illustrated the travelling guides of birdwatching localities in Guatemala and
Colombia.
His exhibits are usually made as charities in which a percentage is donated to NGO's dedicated to conservation in the Neotropics.
Some of his work is on private collections at the UK, USA, Colombia, Guatemala and Argentina, among others.
