Jonathan Pointer was born in 1974 and as a child lived in the Middle East, where exotic birds and the back-drop of desert, waddies
provided an early stimulus in what has since proved to be a lifelong passion for nature and the great outdoors. Now living in rural
southern England, he draws inspiration from the Wessex landscape with its water-meadows, copses, woods and high downs.
In 2005 Jonathan had his inaugural solo exhibition with Jonathan Cooper's Park Walk gallery, London. This show was an
instant sell out and established him as a collectible artist to an international audience. His 2010 follow on solo show British Game
Birds further built on this success, being another sell out.
Inspired by Victorian art, Jonathan’s work has a traditional feel, combining realism and a strong sense of narrative, which is further
enhanced by bespoke framing. His approach to painting is highly individual with all the elements within the painting - subject, flora and
landscape - being treated with equal importance. His work is therefore, part portrait, part botanical and part landscape, an approach that
places the subject within the context of habitat, time and place and gives added opportunity for narrative within the painting. This
dedication to all aspects of nature means that his larger paintings can take months to complete, with an output of no more than 10
paintings a year adding to the collectability of his work.
As an artist he has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally, and is represented by several leading galleries.
Past exhibitions include - The Society of Wildlife Artists - Christies Wildlife and Sporting Art auctions - Olympia Fine Art and Antique
Fairs - The Royal West of England Academy - and Birds in Art in America. In 1998 he co-founded the Marwell Art Society (now the Marwell
international Wildlife Art Society), the largest Wildlife Art society in Europe.
Jonathan lives and works in the shadow of the South Downs where he lives ‘the good life’, growing vegetables, reaping wild
harvests and raising chickens with his wife and their British Blue cat.
In 2011 Jonathan was signed up by Sally Mitchell, the foremost Wildlife & Sporting art print publisher in the UK. His detailed
paintings are now available as highly collectible, Fine Art prints. Jonathan will be releasing 4 new prints with the Sally Mitchell print company at the CLA Game fair this year in July.
