I became really interested in Australian fauna when I moved to a rural property in Queensland . At the time I was a potter, so I
started sculpting birds and animals in clay and exhibiting with the Queensland Wildlife Artists Society. I was blown away by some
of the paintings that were being exhibited at the time and it did not take long for me to pick up a brush and try my hand at
painting wildlife too. I have a background in art but had never been taught to paint in a realistic style. I began with acrylics,
airbrushing backgrounds for bird subjects that I found around my immediate area. During this time I was helping to care for injured
birds and I also raised a wallaroo joey .This led to a spate of kangaroo and wallaby paintings and 2 books about caring for wildlife
which I co-authored and illustrated with artist friend Peta Boyce. The books are called 'Wild About You - Lucky Chance' and Wild
About You - Friends With Feathers'.
Since then I have moved on to paint in alkyds with a more detailed background. I still like to use acrylics for painting simple
studies on illustration board. It's nice to move from the full-on detail of an oil painting to the simplicity of a study. I now
also include African subjects in my painting repertoire having been to Africa a number of times.
A number of my images have been published as limited edition prints.
I am a member of the Queensland Wildlife Artists Society, The Society of Animal Artists and the Artists For Conservation
Foundation.
Recently I have won 'Best international Wildlife Painting' with the Queensland Wildlife Artists Society in 2009 and 2010.
