Paradise Shelducks are unique to New Zealand. The females have white heads and the males have black heads. They are monogamous species,
mating for life. Being quite territorial for much of the year, females often vocally duel, shreiking loudly with their heads held high.
Dueling most often ends with the dominant bird chasing the other away. I have fond memories of some hand reared females vying for my
attention.
This small painting is done in acrylic on paper and is A4 size (unframed).
