Ed Aylmer
Ed Aylmer is a self-taught, bird artist who lives in Johannesburg, South Africa. His love for birds began at an
early age, and he regularly visits game parks in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia on bird watching and
photographic safaris.
Ed started painting in the early 1990’s using watercolour as an art medium. He has since progressed to pastel, which
is his current preferred medium. Being a keen photographer affords Ed the opportunity of using his own photographs
as art references. His art is very detailed and he particularly enjoys highlighting the brilliant colours that are
so indicative of African birds.
Ed has taken part in many exhibitions, winning Bird Artist of the year at an exhibition hosted by the Tree Haven
Waterfowl Trust. He supports wildlife conservation and is a Fellow member of the Raptor Conservation Group.
