It is often the atmosphere of a particular place that inspires a painting and this portrait of a female Hen Harrier is no exception. Having been fortunate to watch these birds on several occassions, I wanted to convey their beauty and elusive nature by allowing the scene to dominate the painting. After commanding the viewers attention, it is only later that the bird becomes discernable as it drifts across the landscape.
